Costruzioni Perrone S.r.l.
St Julian's, Pendergardens - Malta
The intervention concerned the restoration of a garage in a state of disrepair following a fire involving cars inside. Work involved both the ceiling both the floor, restoring the structure to its original condition.
The ceiling restoration, covering approximately 290 m², was executed by manual hydrodemolition of the concrete on the soffit of the slab, removing the deteriorated part up to a thickness of 4 cm. At the same time, the floor restoration was carried out punctually on the areas actually damaged by the fire, involving the removal of deteriorated concrete on the extrados of the lower slab up to a thickness of 5 cm.
Restoration continued with the cleaning of surfaced reinforcement rods and treatment with passivants to protect them from future corrosion. An additional reinforcement mesh was then laid, also treated with passivants, thus ensuring structural continuity between existing and new elements.
Finally, the removed concrete thicknesses were restored with specific shrinkage-compensated mortars, sprayed using a plastering machine and applied in layers to the final finish. The intervention allowed the complete functional and structural restoration of the garage, restoring it to a fully safe and usable condition.
