The intervention concerned the’Selective hydrodemolition of the pylons of the S. Agapito Viaduct, structures in a severely deteriorated state, with blooming reinforcing bars and deteriorating carbonated concrete. The operation was carried out on piers as high as 6 up to 15 metres, for a total of approx. 17,000 square metres treated.

The work was carried out by hydroscarification and selective hydrodemolition, by removing the deteriorated layers of concrete (3 to 10 cm depending on the state of the material) and preserving the healthy concrete. This approach made it possible to freeing armour and prepare the structure for subsequent redevelopment and consolidation, guaranteeing the durability and safety of the work.

In order not to compromise structural stability, the work was carried out in a manner alternating and non-sequential, distributing the hydrodemolition phases over the different stacks.

To reach the highest altitudes, up to 15 metres, a special slide mounted on telescopic lift, regulated by means of a hydraulic system, which made it possible to operate safely and accurately even at greater heights.
