The Laimburg Research Centre, located in Vadena (BZ), is a renowned agri-food research institute, founded in 1975 and for over half a century a reference point for innovation, quality and sustainability in the agricultural sector.
The building in question rises directly against the rocky slope of the valley and is designed to look like a natural extension of the mountain, integrated into the landscape rather than imposed on it.
The project included a hydroscarification over the entire surface area of 5,500 m², performed immediately after the construction of the structure. The work consisted of the controlled removal of the surface layer of concrete in order to reveal the agglomerates of rock aggregates used in the construction.
The aim was to emphasise the visual and aesthetic connection of the building with the rock behind, making it a natural continuation of the slope and not a foreign element in the context. Thanks to this process, the inert surface again on the surface, creating a material and almost organic effect that directly recalls the original rock.
It was not only an aesthetic intervention, but also functional to enhance the construction material, highlighting geological identity and fully reflecting the philosophy of the Laimburg Research Centre: a harmonious integration of architecture, land and the natural environment.
