During the operation of the constantly flooding hydroelectric canal located in Villa di Tirano, some structural injuries in the concrete duct that were causing water leakage due to internal pressure. The intervention was aimed at redevelopment and consolidation of the damaged parts, in order to restore the full hydraulic tightness of the canal.

The activity began with the controlled widening of the cracks, followed by a thorough cleaning and removal of debris inside the cracks by hydroscarification. Subsequently, the cavities were sealed with an expansive sealing material, capable of adapting to the movements of the concrete and ensuring an even fill.

After this preliminary phase, consolidation was carried out by injecting specific resins. The surface of the canal was then scarification to roughen the affected area, improving the adhesion of the resin used for laying the waterproof tape, which has the function of creating an initial barrier against infiltration.

To further enhance the sealing system, a steel sheet was inserted and anchored by nailing. This plate has the dual purpose of deflecting the flow of water, allowing it to flow over the metal surface, and protecting the underlying waterproof tape, preventing water from penetrating back into the cracks.

Thanks to this double protection system, consisting of waterproof tape and steel plate, it was possible to completely eliminate leaks and restore full hydraulic functionality of the canal. In summary, the intervention closed and permanently consolidated the various concrete cracks, preventing future water spills caused by flow pressure.
